Confirm that you have the following equipment.

• DS3608-SR scanner 
• Zebra proprietary USB cable 
• Other host interfaces setup are described in the DS3608-SR Product Reference Guide (for example,  Keyboard Wedge Interface)

First Time Connection steps

1.    Connect the RJ41 end of the USB cable to the handle of the DS3608-SR scanner.

2.    Connect the USB end of the cable to your computer USB port. 

3.    The DS3608-SR will power up with low, medium, high beeps

4.    Pull the DS3608-SR trigger and confirm a scan beam is present.

5.    Scan Return To Factory Defaults programming barcode from the DS3608 Quick Start Guide.

Note: When scanning a programming barcode from a screen/monitor, increase magnification to a minimum of 125%. This will ensure good barcode quality for a successful scan.

6.    To test sending a barcode, open a text document in an application such as Microsoft Word or Notepad.

Ensure that you can type into the text document using your keyboard.

Scan a product barcode.

7.    The scanned barcode will be displayed in the text document.

If Windows is configured for a region’s local keyboard and does not use an English keyboard layout, transferred barcode data may appear inaccurate.

IMPORTANT! Do not connect your printer to a computer yet! 

• If you connected your printer to a computer via USB before driver installation, the printer might appear as an unknown (unspecified) device in “Devices and Printers.” 
• If necessary, follow these recovery steps before proceeding to Step 1. 

1. Download and install the recommended Windows Printer Driver v8.

• Download the driver from the DRIVERS section below.
• Follow the instructions for Installing the Drivers.

2.  Connect the printer.

• Connect the printer to a USB port on your computer.
• Connect the printer to your wireless network (Wi-Fi).
• Connect the printer to your network through the Ethernet port.

3. Load media (media usually means labels, but it also includes tag stock, receipt paper, and other things that can be printed on).

5. Print a test label.

6. Calibrate ribbon and media sensors.

7. The printer settings must match the actual supplies that you are using for your print job and the options on your printer. Adjust the printer settings as necessary using Zebra Setup Utilities software or Windows Printer Driver v8.
